Padraig Harrington is keen to preach the simple side of golf, according to one man lucky enough have been invited to a golf clinic given by the newly-crowned US PGA champion recently.
Speaking to the Tryon Daily Bulletin, William Trakas revealed all after his trip to the White Oak Plantation development in Florida to hear Harrington talk.
He said that despite missing a few words of wisdom due to Harrington's thick Irish twang, the main jist of the world number two's advice to attendees was to focus on the basics.
"This biggest lesson was that golf is a simple game with simple mechanics that most people complicate too much, and watching him swing makes you realise this," said Trakas.
Continuing: "He said that too much attention is on the parts of the actual swing and not enough on basic posture, alignment, grip, setup and shot selection, all the pre-shot stuff that takes no athletic ability but is 75 per cent of a good golf shot."
Harrington bagged his third major in 18 months at the US PGA Championship earlier in the month, winning by two shots over Ben Curtis and Sergio Garcia at Oakland Hills in Michigan.
However, the 36-year-old was still not 100 per cent happy with his swing over the four days, saying: "My co-ordination was out all week. On Thursday and Friday I couldn't get to the clubhouse quick enough."
