Home-grown talent Rod Pampling triumphed at the Australian Masters this weekend.

The Queensland-born golfer beat fellow countryman Marcus Fraser on the third-hole of a playoff to take his first big win in two-years.

After finishing at 12-under, the players went to sudden death at Huntingdale.

Two pars followed by both players on the first two holes, until Fraser made a bogey on the third.

Pampling countered with a neat three-foot putt to come in on par, narrowly missing out on a birdie.

The two players went head-to-head after two-time Australian Masters winner Robert Allenby made a double bogie during his final round.

Allenby had been favourite to win the competition, starting on Sunday with an overnight lead of 11. However, the tricky par-three 15th hole saw the player chip on to the green from a bunker and then over shoot a putt.

Fresh from his win, Pampling will head to the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship on the Sunshine Coast where he will meet defending champion Peter Lonard.
