American businessman Donald Trump has expressed his delight after the Scottish government backed plans for a £1 billion golf resort in Aberdeenshire.
The local council had rejected proposals for the development, saying it would damage an area which is home to rare species of birds and other wildlife.
But after a public local inquiry was conduced by the Scottish government it has been decided that the work to build the mammoth resort could go ahead.
"We are greatly honoured by the positive decision and believe that the people of Scotland will be extremely happy with the final product," Trump, star of the US TV hit The Apprentice, said of the news.
He added: "It will be a tremendous asset and source of pride for both Aberdeenshire and Scotland for many generations."
Under proposals the development will include two championship golf courses.
