One of the oldest courses in Wales has been saved from a proposed housing development which would have endangered one of its 18 holes.
Langland Bay Golf Club had protested against the 12 houses planned to be built on an adjoining strip of land near to the third hole.
After a 243-signiture petition was compiled and 140 letters were sent to Swansea Council opposing the development, Liberty Properties announced it was withdrawing an application.
Club chairman Tony Vaughan commented: "We are delighted that it has been withdrawn. It would certainly have affected the playing of golf at Langland."
The overriding issue was that the third hole may have to be withdrawn due to health and safety regulations if the construction had been given the go-ahead.
Members celebrated the Centenary year of the club in 2004 - although the course is said to date back as far as 50 years before 1904, the founders officially opened it during this year.
