South Africa's Richard Strerne and Liang Wenchong of China lead the way after the pair both shot 64s to sit on top of the leaderboard on six-under.
Wilson came agonisingly close to securing his maiden European Tour title at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai earlier in the month, beaten by Sergio Garica in a play-off.
"It has been a great start to the highly anticipated Race to Dubai and I must now press on to try to use the momentum I have to get that first win before my end-of-season break after Hong Kong," he told the Nottingham Evening Post ahead of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the
Callaway Golf endorsee's compatriot Oliver Fisher was one shot back on three-under, tied for ninth spot.
